At the outset, there is no element of mystery in the serial but just a re-construction of the crime and how the culprit is finally brought to book. The series was written by Mitali Bhattacharya and directed by Ravi Ojha. The script of this serial is original however there are several influences take, like the very famous Karamchand, American Detective TV serial, Columbo( because this character also has untidy appearance and clumsiness like the depicted KC character in Saboot). The lead character KC looks very messy, clumsy however the lurk behind the facade is a razor sharp mind. This kind of approach to deal with such detective serial won many viewers. So, the viewers have to really apply their mind and it is a very intelligent format. The character KC's messy appearance and low-key manner misleads the criminal into not taking her seriously, which is what leads to his or her getting caught eventually. Anita Kanwar of Buniyaad fame returned from a six year gap played the lead role of CBI officer and Chief of Homicide, “Inspector KC” in this serial. It was later telecasted on Doordarshan as “Inspector KC”. It was produced by Cinevistaas and telecast on STAR plus during 1998-99. The importance is on the gradual sorting out of clues by the detective in the later part of the serial. He propagated nonviolence (ahis), insistence on truth (satygraha satya), and self-restraint as the fundamental principles of religion, guiding all. Saboot is an Indian crime series based on howdunit format (where the murderer is revealed to the viewers at the beginning).
